Dr Frikkie Rademan
General Surgeon
M.B.Ch.B (Stell), FCS (SA), M.Med (Stell)
As a General Surgeon, Dr Rademan applies his skills to cover a broad spectrum of surgical procedures, including: hernia repairs (ingiunal, incisional, umbilical, hiatus hernia), anal procedures (haemorrhoids, fistula, abscesses), cancer surgery (colon and rectal cancers, breast cancer, stomach cancer, skin cancer, pancreatic cancer), infective abdominal procedures (appendicitis, diverticulitis), gallstones, ulcers and endoscopic procedures (gastroscopies and colonoscopies).
Dr Rademan was the first surgeon in South Africa to be accredited in robotic colorectal surgery, and was among the pioneering surgeons who extended Mediclinic Durbanville’s da Vinci programme beyond urology into pelvic floor repair and rectal cancer surgery. He continues to perform robotic colorectal resections and robotic pelvic floor surgery, and is an active voice in the field’s development in South Africa — writing and presenting on the clinical role of robotic-assisted colorectal surgery, patient access, and the responsible integration of new surgical technology. His perspective is consistent: technology serves the surgeon’s judgement, and the measure of any new tool is what it does for the patient’s outcome and recovery.
Dr Rademan founded a dedicated pelvic unit at Mediclinic Durbanville, where he and his colleagues treat incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse — conditions that are common, life-altering and often suffered in silence. The unit offers modern treatment options including robotic surgery and sacral neuromodulation (InterStim), giving patients in the northern suburbs access to therapies usually available only at major academic centres.
